Fans of Joey + Rory had started to grow concerned when several days had passed without Rory writing a new post on his blog, This Life I Live.

When Rory finally had a post to share, he revealed some heartbreaking news about Joey and her condition.  Rory said his most recent post, which he titled Last Kiss, was an extremely challenging one for him to write because Joey has taken a turn for the worse.

He says that he sometimes feels “like the boy who cried wolf,” since it there have been several times now when he thought Joey was near the end. But as Joey has proven over and over again, her will is strong, and she was determined to see her daughter Indiana’s second birthday on February 17, and she did.

However, now that Joey has seen little Indy turn two, Rory writes that she “has done all she set out to do.” Rory reveals that Joey’s pain has increased over the course of the past few weeks, and her health has continued to detoriate.

Following Indy’s birthday, Joey finally decided “enough is enough” and admitted to Rory she was ready to stop fighting. “She said the flowers would soon be blooming back in Tennessee,” Rory wrote. “It’s time to go home.”

Knowing that she doesn’t have much time left with her loved ones, Joey gathered them together to tell each of them goodbye.

Finally, she asked Rory to bring Indy in to her, and Rory wrote about their sweet, but heartbreaking goodbye: “And so… I set our little Indy on Joey’s lap and we all cried with my wife as she told her how much her mama loved her and, ‘…you be a big girl for your papa… and that mama will be watching over you’.  And then she pulled Indiana up and she kissed her.

One last kiss.” Rory reveals that Joey has now been asleep for the past several days, and that her body is quickly shutting down.

The hospice nurse told him on Monday morning (Feb. 29) that she felt “Joey will most-likely only be with us for a few more days…at the most.” Knowing his time with Joey is running out, Rory spent one evening putting together a photo slideshow with pictures of her.

He set the slideshow to their song, “In The Time That You Gave Me,” writing that the song was recorded a few years ago, but never made the record it was meant for.

The combination of the song with the photos of Joey make for a touching video, which Rory said he had trouble watching at first. You can see the slideshow Rory created in the video below.

Our hearts are breaking over what Rory had to say about Joey in his most recent blog post. We will continue to keep Joey, Rory, and little Indy in our thoughts and prayers. Read more at:
