Even though Duck Dynasty started out as a humble reality show, albeit a highly rated one, the show about the Phil Robertson clan has taken on a whole life of its own in the political spectrum.
Phil Robertson, the leader of the Duck Dynasty clan, became the rallying cry for the religious right’s commitment to speaking out against homosexuality, despite massive gains for gay rights over the last decade. Phil’s move was such a controversial debate in the media, that he was even awarded for “Free Speech” at the Conservative Political Action Conference a few weeks ago.
Now, Robertson is again making comments that are sure win him a whole swarm of new supporters and enemies alike. Last Friday at the Vero Beach Prayer Breakfast, the Duck Dynasty patriarch told the audience that atheists would be the victims of their own moral relativism, Phil said, if an atheist man was forced to watch his daughters be raped in front of him, according to TruNews.
“I’ll make a bet with you. Two guys break into an atheist’s home. He has a little atheist wife and two little atheist daughters. Two guys break into his home and tie him up in a chair and gag him. And then they take his two daughters in front of him and rape both of them and then shoot them and they take his wife and then decapitate her head off in front of him. And then they can look at him and say, ‘Isn’t it great that I don’t have to worry about being judged? Isn’t it great that there’s nothing wrong with this? There’s no right or wrong, now is it dude?’”
Robertson continued to describe the scenario in detail. The Duck Dynasty star ended the gruesome analogy by saying that the attackers would then castrate the atheist man, saying that according to the fictional character’s morals, he would not be able to argue against the violent gesture.
“Then you take a sharp knife and take his manhood and hold it in front of him and say, ‘Wouldn’t it be something if this [sic] was something wrong with this? But you’re the one who says there is no God, there’s no right, there’s no wrong, so we’re just having fun. We’re sick in the head, have a nice day.’”
Despite his notability in conservative circles, the Robertson family has floundered in the ratings game since the divisive GQ interview, where Phil called gays and lesbians “immoral.” Still, as previously reported by the Inquisitr, the numbers for the show are a decent enough showing that Duck Dynasty is likely to be renewed for another season.
That is unless further comments manage to bog down the Phil Robertson family’s reputation; though based on past reactions to their outspoken comments, it might be just as likely that they attract some viewers as dissuade them from tuning in.
